"Our world’s caves are places of wonder, mystery and majestic beauty. Show caves around the world are embracing their role in protecting and preserving caves and providing a place for people to learn about these special, natural, cultural and historical resources.

Show caves also play another important nature tourism role of sustainable economic development, providing jobs, and helping the economy of their regions.”

Message from the ISCA President for June 6

Letter from the President of ISCA – June 6: International Day of Caves and the Subterranean World

Dear colleagues, friends, and advocates of the subterranean world,

Every year on June 6, we proudly celebrate the International Day of Caves and the Subterranean World. This year is especially meaningful, as we celebrate the 10th anniversary of this international initiative promoted by the show cave community.

Over the last decade, June 6 has become an important opportunity to raise awareness about the value of caves, subterranean heritage, and the work carried out by show caves and cave organizations around the world. Thanks to the involvement of many caves, associations, and professionals, this celebration continues to grow internationally year after year.

At the same time, we would also like to recognize the recent UNESCO designation of September 13 as the International Day of Caves and Karst, following an initiative led by the International Union of Speleology (UIS). While both celebrations share the common goal of promoting and protecting the underground world, June 6 remains especially focused on show caves, public awareness, education, tourism, and connecting visitors with subterranean heritage.

We encourage all show caves and partners to join the celebration of June 6 through activities adapted to their own possibilities and communities. Some caves organize free entrance for children, educational activities, guided tours, exhibitions, social media campaigns, or distribute magnets and other small giveaways to visitors. Every initiative, large or small, helps promote appreciation for the underground world.

Attached you will find the ISCA logo prepared for June 6, although additional versions are also available in the shared folder. These materials can be used for promotional activities and may also become a nice giveaway for visitors.

Attached to this email you will also find a press release, which show caves and organizations may use for local, regional, or national media activities connected to the celebration.

Thank you to everyone who continues supporting this initiative and helping strengthen our international show cave community.

With gratitude,

Friedrich Oedl
President
International Show Caves Association (ISCA)
